INVALID PAGE FAULT - EXPLORER CAUSED AN ERROR IN "EXPLORER.EXE"

System will not boot to the desktop

Somehow your shell files have become mixed and you have win95 and win98s that are not compatible.

To get windows booting again:

1) boot to DOS using a boot disk or hold F8.

2) Now we have to copy the win95 shell files (98lite sleek/micro desktop) back into the windows folder. These are located in a subfolder called 98lite in your setup folder that contains the cabs. so from the DOS prompt you want to type:

copy c:\98setup\98lite\explorer.exe c:\windows

copy c:\98setup\98lite\comdlg32.dll c:\windows\system

copy c:\98setup\98lite\shell32.dll c:\windows\system

This assumes your CAB files are in c:98setup and that your windows is installed to c:windows. Adjust the paths as you need.

The system will now boot - into the sleek shell.

What caused this? When you select CHUBBY, 98lite has to delete the win95 explorer.exe, shell32.dll and comdlg.dll from the c:\98setup folder so that the install script will pull the win98 versions from the CAB files. if for some reason they do NOT get deleted the install scripts will take the files instead of sucking new ones from the CAB's. It sounds like you got the win98 shell32.dll and comdlg32.dll but mixed with the win95 explorer.exe = FATAL ERROR.

Select your setup folder in explorer and make sure the properties for these files are NOT read only.
