Dr. Watson is a program error troubleshooting tool that traps program faults, and generates a snapshot of the operating system that you can use to diagnose the fault

In XPlite Professional you can find Dr Watson under the group titled  System Tools & Utilities.

Install Dr Watson:

Dr Watson is a stand-alone component. The function of Dr Watson does not rely on any other XPlite Professional components and removing other components in XPlite Professional should not influence Dr Watson.

Uninstall Dr Watson:

Dr Watson is not required by other system components in XPlite Professional. You can safely uninstall Dr Watson without compromising other XPlite Professional components.

BUT PLEASE NOTE: You may have other software installed that does require Dr Watson. If you encounter any compatibility issues with other software you can quickly and easily reinstall Dr Watson using XPlite Professional.

Compatibility:

XPlite Professional can completely uninstall Dr Watson and reinstall to repair Dr Watson on:

• Windows XP Professional: orig, SP1, SP2
• Windows XP Home: orig, SP1, SP2
• Windows 2000 Professional: orig, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4
• Windows 2003 Server: orig, SP1, SP2(coming!)

User Removal Statistics for Dr Watson

XPlite:
Of 917 sampled Windows XP users, 516 left Dr Watson installed and 401 people uninstalled Dr Watson from their system.

2000lite:
Of 180 sampled Windows 2000 users, 64 left Dr Watson installed and 73 people uninstalled it from their system. No data for another 43 users (advanced features hidden or incomplete log data).

Pro Users can help us collect these removal statistics.

1. In XPlite or 2000lite press to access preferences.
2. Ensure logging is on.
3. Check "Send component state data when checking for upgrades" on the Preferences tab.
4. Using the Check for Upgrades button on the About tab.

The information sent is the last block only of component installation state data - you can see this in the log as "option=1" or "option=0". No personal information is conveyed.
