OS/2 Subsystem

Provides an emulated OS/2 environment that allows some OS/2 ver 1.x applications to run under Windows.

In XPlite Professional you can find OS/2 Subsystem under the group titled  Operating System Options.

Install OS/2 Subsystem:

OS/2 Subsystem is a stand-alone component. The function of OS/2 Subsystem does not rely on any other XPlite Professional components and removing other components in XPlite Professional should not influence OS/2 Subsystem.

Uninstall OS/2 Subsystem:

OS/2 Subsystem is not required by other system components in XPlite Professional. You can safely uninstall OS/2 Subsystem without compromising other XPlite Professional components.

BUT PLEASE NOTE: You may have other software installed that does require OS/2 Subsystem. If you encounter any compatibility issues with other software you can quickly and easily reinstall OS/2 Subsystem using XPlite Professional.

Compatibility:

XPlite Professional can completely uninstall OS/2 Subsystem and reinstall to repair OS/2 Subsystem on:

• Windows 2000 Professional: orig, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4

User Removal Statistics for OS/2 Subsystem

2000lite:
Of 393 sampled Windows 2000 users, 80 left OS/2 Subsystem installed and 135 people uninstalled it from their system. No data for another 178 users (advanced features hidden or incomplete log data).

1. In XPlite or 2000lite press to access preferences.
2. Ensure logging is on.
3. Check "Send component state data when checking for upgrades" on the Preferences tab.
4. Using the Check for Upgrades button on the About tab.

The information sent is the last block only of component installation state data - you can see this in the log as "option=1" or "option=0". No personal information is conveyed.
