POSIX Subsystem
Provides an emulated POSIX environment to allow some UNIX-based applications written to the POSIX international standard for portability to run under Windows.

POSIX Subsystem is a stand-alone component. The function of POSIX Subsystem does not rely on any other XPlite Professional components and removing other components in XPlite Professional should not influence POSIX Subsystem.
POSIX Subsystem is not required by other system components in XPlite Professional. You can safely uninstall POSIX Subsystem without compromising other XPlite Professional components. BUT PLEASE NOTE: You may have other software installed that does require POSIX Subsystem. If you encounter any compatibility issues with other software you can quickly and easily reinstall POSIX Subsystem using XPlite Professional.
XPlite Professional can completely uninstall POSIX Subsystem and reinstall to repair POSIX Subsystem on:
- Windows 2000 Professional: orig, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4

Of 393 sampled Windows 2000 users, 87 left POSIX Subsystem installed and 117 people uninstalled it from their system. No data for another 189 users (advanced features hidden or incomplete log data).

- In XPlite or 2000lite press
to access preferences.
- Ensure logging is on.
- Check "Send component state data when checking for upgrades" on the Preferences tab.
- Using the Check for Upgrades button on the About tab.
The information sent is the last block only of component installation state data - you can see this in the log as "option=1" or "option=0". No personal information is conveyed.
