LitePC Technologies Pty Ltd
LitePC Technologies Pty Ltd
LitePC Technologies exists to empower end users, systems administrators and developers with the ability to configure and optimise THEIR Windows machine they way THEY want it. Our products give people the ability to strip back the layers unused features to channel the power of the Windows OS into the tasks they bought the computer for in the first place.
LitePC Technologies Pty Ltd is a privately owned Australian company founded by Shane Brooks in 1999 following the runaway success of 98liteTM, a software program he wrote for customizing Microsoft Windows 98TM and Windows MillenniumTM. 98lite was the first utility that removed Internet Explorer from Windows 98. 98lite has been reviewed in countless magazine and newspaper articles in many different countries (reference). LitePC Technologies built on the strengths of 98lite to market software utilities and expertise targeting the complete dis-integration and re-aggregation of the Windows 9x operating system for end users as well as for embedded and industrial applications (https://www.embeddingwindows.com). LitePC Technologies knows Windows!
The driving force behind our products is the firm belief that an operating system should stand separate from the applications being run on it. LitePC Technologies believe an operating system should be a transparent layer that interfaces software components with your hardware - no more, no less. For the greatest flexibility, the software layer should be modular so that components can be removed or installed at will by the users or administrators without compromising the integrity of the underlying operating system. With its many bundled utilities and widgets and varying levels of integration Windows blurs the line between application and operating system as it strives to present a pleasing end user experience. Flexibility has been lost, security has declined, and end users are corralled into using their systems "the Microsoft Way".
Windows 2000 and XP are great platforms that are inherrantly more stable than their predecessors, however, by design they are also far less modular for the end user than Windows9x ever was. For Microsoft this also means that there many more "technologies" being integrated into the package and the high frequency of released security updates and patches over the last few years is proof that the abilities of Microsoft to produce a tight, secure, and efficient operating system have been severely compromised by the complexity they have created for themselves.
From a security standpoint - running a box full of features that you don't want, need or use is downright objectionable. For systems administrators, this means keeping track of security patches and configuration issues for technologies that may not be in use in the workplace and therefore are less familiar, which in itself may lead to problems.
LitePC Technologies sells to end users who are looking to tame their PC's, to businesses looking for reduced administration, and also to developers who are looking for a secure reduced footprint operating system to run dedicated tasks in kiosks, embedded and industrial applications, and consumer devices. We develop a unique range of end user utilities that expose the modular underbelly that exists in all Windows operating systems to empower YOU to set up YOUR Windows, YOUR way!
